DEVELOPING SPEECH FOR HSC STUDENTS
SPEECHES.
Speech requires practice. Speech is of two types, formal and informal.
CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD SPEECH:
1. Initial address: honorable , respected, dear etc.
2. Thought content : thought content should be related to topic .
3. Repetition of the sentence to highlight the particular point.
4. Use of discourse markers/Linking words.- Therefore, before, after, yet ,then, besides, moreover for instance, etc.
5. Use of pronouns- e.g. this, that, you, our etc.
6. To show the interest and intention of the speaker use the sentences like: I say…., I am aware of, I think, I request , I want, I appeal etc.
7. The use of Rhetorical questions to give emphasis on particular ideas or thought. e.g. Is this our generation expecting from our politicians? Actually speaker wants to say we are not expecting. Even the audience obvious response will be , No.
8. Proverbs, slogans, quotations of famous personalities ,lines of poems, good thoughts can be included in speech.
